Fluid ounces vs weight ounces
One US cup is 8 US fluid ounces of volume. Weight is different: a cup of water weighs about 8.3 oz, but a cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 4.25 oz (120 g) and a cup of granulated sugar about 7.1 oz (200 g). If a recipe lists ounces for a dry ingredient, it almost always means weight.
UK and US fluid ounces
A US fluid ounce is 29.57 mL and a UK fluid ounce is 28.41 mL, and a UK pint is 20 UK fluid ounces versus 16 US fluid ounces, so pints differ more than ounces.
